It has been quite some time since satellite TV became a common part of our life. For today’s generation watching the same channel or same set of local channels is something that is non-existent. We are all quite used to watching channels from all over the world and belonging to different categories – politics, current affairs, sports, music or movies, all thanks to the invention and installation of satellite television. These days we don’t give it a second thought when we switch from one channel to another watching a programme from the United States or another programme from Down Under. However, this wouldn’t have been possible without the invention of motorised satellite dish antenna.

Hepa filters are the most effective air cleaning systems sold for home use. They are used in hospitals and doctors recommend them above other air filtration systems for patients with asthma or severe allergies. They arent energy efficient for whole house filtration systems due to the amount of energy needed to run them. For this reason, most are intended to treat one space. You may need to purchase one for the bedroom and another for the living area.
Hepa is an acronym for High Efficiency Particulate Air filter. This method is more effective at removing small particles from the air than any other filtration media. They can be used alone in an air cleaner or combined with another method, such as an electrostatic air purifier. These filters are sometimes used on another appliance, such as a vacuum cleaner or humidifiers in cold weather or a dry climate.
Effectiveness of Hepa Filters
The effectiveness of a filter is measured by the size of the particles it can remove from the air. This is stated in microns. The smaller the number, the more particles will be removed from your air. In general, you should look for a filter that will remove 99.97% of all particles 0.1 microns or larger.
These filters remove a wide variety of contaminants from the air. They are very effective at removing dust mites and pet dander, which are two very common allergens in homes. They also reduce smoke, pollen and mold spores from the air.
For the air cleaning system to be effective, it needs to fit the room. Most air purifier models are marked for the number of square feet they cover. Find out the square footage of the space where you intend to use the purifier before you go shopping. Choose one that works for a slightly larger area for best results. For example, if the room is 300 square feet, look for a system that will treat 400 square feet. A purifier that works for only 300 square feet will be less effective at removing all the particles in your air.
In most cases, these filters are disposable. For the system to be effective, the filter must be changed as needed. Follow the directions from the manufacturer for how often it needs to be changed. The more the air cleaner is used, the more the filters will need to be changed. In general, you will need to change it every three to six months.
Hepa Vacuum Cleaners
If you have an air cleaner, but you use a traditional vacuum cleaner, the air wont be as clean as you would like. Dust and other particles in the carpet is kicked up into the air by vacuuming. This causes more irritants in the air for you to breathe. Hepa filters are being used in vacuum cleaners. The filter traps particles inside, leaving fewer irritants in the air.
Some vacuum cleaners use a single filter, while others use multi stage or multiple filters. These filters are cleanable and need to be replaced yearly. For the system to be effective, you should look for a filter that is capable of catching small particles. When replacing filters, be sure to buy the right size for your vacuum.

Digital camera prices have been constantly dropping whilst the quality and complexity of the digital cameras has been rising rapidly. Barcode scanners are light emitting devices that are used to read barcodes. Usually attached to a computer or laptop via PS2 or RS-232, the data collected is stored on a computer for processing or storage. It is now used in many different industries such as retail or production.
They have been on the market for many years now with new versions of barcode scanners available every year. The prices can vary from as low as $50.00 to as high as several thousand dollars. So how do you pick a good barcode scanner?
To answer that question, it is important you know there are 2 major classes of barcode scanners, image-based and laser-based. Image-based barcode scanners use a camera usually embedded in a barcode scanner. The camera will capture the images and then processed by complex image techniques to decode the barcodes. Laser-based barcode scanners uses mirrors and lenses to read the barcodes.
Laser barcode scanners are usually more expensive than image-based scanners. They have their own pros and cons. An image-based barcode scanner do not have internal movable parts therefore are more resistant to drops or knocks than laser barcode scanners. Also, image-based barcode scanners have a shorter scanning distance (4 to 10 inches) compared to laser barcode scanners. On the other hand, laser scanners are more prone to wear and tear due to their lenses. They not only have a longer scanning distance (up to 24 inches) but also are able to scan from a wider angle from the barcode.
Be aware that the scanning distance for both image-based and laser barcode scanners have already improved dramatically over the years and I wouldnt be surprised if a barcode manufacturer claims an image-based scanner has a scanning distance of 24 inches.
Here are some questions you need to ask yourself before getting a barcode scanner. The size of scanner required? Type of environment the barcode scanner will be using (outdoors, shop, warehouse)? The scanning distance required? Are they to be used hands free or hand-held? Your budget?
So my suggestion is if you need a barcode scanner for long range scanning, get a laser barcode scanner. For short range scanning, use an image-based barcode scanner such as a CCD barcode scanner. The environment as I asked earlier also plays an important part. If the barcode scanner is being used outdoors or in rugged environments where it is expected to take a drop or knock or two, then it is best to get an image-based barcode scanner. If it were for example being used in a retail shop, then a laser barcode scanner would be the best choice.
There are such a wide variety of barcode scanners available that I just cant explain completely in this article. If you are in doubt, consult the barcode manufacturers such as symbol or metrologic who have sales consultants who are able to do an analysis of the type of barcode scanners needed by your business.

How to buy brand name gadgets for bargains on the dollar
Don’t you love gadgets, especially the new finagled ones. If you are like me and you strive to take ownership of the latest and greatest, then this article is for you – because I will save you a bunch of money which can then be safely applied to … even more gadgets. From satellite receivers to universal remotes, there is a constant barrage of new releases. Now any self respecting gadget addict will understand that yesterdays gizmo’s is destined for the trash heap as soon as release 3.0 hits the streets.
Of course for the savvy shopper release 2.0 offers unique buying opportunities. Purchasing the one generation before often yields even more fun and stimulation. Since bugs have been removed, geeky hacks have been introduced and generally you can have more fun and be rather more ruthless with the little device.
Now a market exists for both state of the generation and one, two and even three back versions. Its eBay of course that I am referring too. With a large volume of most electronics being traded everyday, this is the ideal near efficient market. One can study the dynamics of this micro-market and determine some useful buying rules. With a little more information than the rest of the marketplace, one can almost certainly make some intelligent buying opportunities. This article focuses on how to identify these gaps and often purchase many electronic gadgets for 20-100% below retail.
This article should be read together with my longer piece and a web site, which produces the information required to identify buying nuggets. Find the links and URLs to these two sites at the bottom of this article. There exists a little web site that polls data from eBay throughout the day. Now what makes this different you may ask? Well firstly it only focuses on well know in demand electronic gadgets. On the left panel you will find categories for things like Wide screen Notebooks, Digital Cameras, Simple Surround Sound, XBOX 360, Apple iPOod Tunes Video, HDTV, ESPN Phone, etc. etc.
There is one more aspect that makes this site useful. That is it holds information that is often more difficult for the buyer to obtain. With this information in hand buyers can often make more informed and better decisions and therefore avoid bidding wars and outsmart other bidders to a high degree.
Most information on eBay focuses on the selling element, i.e. how to sell your clubs. I have tended to specialize on the buying end and trying to identify market opportunities and price in-efficiencies to really capture excellent deals. To do this we need to understand the dynamics of the eBay market place. Like any other market it is supply demand driven, and like a large flee-market if a buyer has knowledge of how many items are for sale at what prices and how many other buyers are in the market, then that buyer can capture the upper hand. Lets focus a little more on supply.
The eBay supply dynamic is a little different in that supply of an item must be seen at a point in time. In other words, because auctions end at different times, one needs to grasp the number of auctions ending in close proximity for the same item. This gives you a feel for the supply of items or in our case cameras. What makes this interesting is that today there could be a large amount of auctions ending for a particular model, but next week there could be very few. This is one element driving the price.
The demand side is slightly more complex and hidden from the average eBay buyer. This is where that the web site I refer to at below has some useful data. Demand in eBay terms is measured (by sellers) as a number of factors – how many people view my auction, how many people ask questions, how many people place me on their watch page, and how many people actually bid. Obviously as we progress down this list the data become more reliable as an indication of demand. Page views are not easy to obtain, although some sellers place a publicly viewable counter on their auction pages. Questions and watchers are available to sellers, and the special web site mentioned below will expose this information. Number of bids is available for all to see.
Now if we happened to produce a graph as the auction progresses of the changes in the number of questions, watchers and bids one can easily see how the demand is changing as time progresses. Typically if questions are high and watchers are high, but bids are low, this may indicate some confusion (for example a spelling mistake in a model number) and a possible buy opportunity. If watchers are very high and climbing, but bids are low, this can point to a last minute bidding war, and a stay out indicator.
Armed with this information and also a quick summary of other similar auctions ending soon, plus a quick feel for the skill set of the seller and the current highest bidder, one can see a picture very different from the average eBay buyer. Soon the trained eye will observe some nice buying opportunities.
Electronics gadget nut cases like me, relish the opportunity to get a one up on our fellow buyers. Look carefully at the data presented, after a little practice opportunities will leap out at you. The premise is simple, a buyer with more market information will always pay lower prices than the rest of the market. In stock market terms it caller insider trading, and its illegal. In our case its quite above board and simply assists you in better understanding the supply demand curve for that yummy flat panel TV you had you eye on last Christmas.

If you go to your local home theater store, you may be confronted by a variety of extreme sounding names for cabling: Mega Cables, Monster Cables, Uber Cables the proliferation of boutique cabling is always a source of controversy in home theater and audiophile circles. The question is, how much difference do they make, and are they worth it? Well despite the perils involved in even mentioning this topic, Im going to attempt to add something to the discussion.
The most important thing to recognize is that a cable cannot improve the sound of a home stereo system any more than an electrical wire can create extra electricity when you plug it into the wall. Thats actually a very good example, because when youre listening to audio for instance, what were hearing is an electronic representation of acoustic sounds that is to say, the actual sounds have not been captured and stuffed into a compact disc like fireflies in a childs jar they have been copied, imitated, and a representation stored on the disc as a series of numbers.
These numbers are then read and translated into electronic signals, which are sent to the speakers in order to approximate the actual sounds. With that in mind, it makes sense that poor quality wires dont physically change the sound instead its like a game of telephone, in which the band tells the CD, the CD tells the player, the player tells the wires, and the wires tell the speakers, with something being lost at every step so that the message Aunt Betty baked a pie is altered to Fat Eddy wants to cry or what should be a great live recording sounds tinny, distant, or otherwise just plain wrong.
A good cable will change the signal as little as possible, but all cables do damage your signal a bit its simply a matter of degree. As far as which cables are the best? Thats up to you or your local audio guru to decide much is up to personal preference, with the rest probably being left up to your budget to decide.
